Everett Public Schools and Context
Webster School
At the Webster School, part of EPS, I teach 330 elementary students K-5 in once-weekly 45 minute classes of General Music. Our school services grade level classes of 20-30 students, including ELLs and separate special education classes with 5-10 students each. I teach students on the ASD spectrum, and students with developmental, linguistic, and/or physical disabilities and delays. I travel to each classroom within the school to teach, so I travel with all of my materials and instruments. The instruments include a small set of pitched and unpitched Orff instruments, handbells, 3-4 ukuleles and guitars, and 10 electronic keyboards.
Devens School
The Devens Schools is a specialized therapeutic educational program, part of the Everett Public Schools. Our school features very small class sizes with an individualized approach for our students with disabilities. I am grateful to teach in the beautiful music and arts room at the Devens School, with a collection of electronic keyboard instruments, guitars, ukuleles, and more.
As a lifelong multi-instrumentalist and singer, I use my musicality to form authentic connections with my students. By learning about my students interests, I can help create a personalized curriculum and program of study that best suits my students’ needs. Versatility and musicianships are the trademark qualities of my music education that inspires my students to learn.
Everett Public Schools
As an employee of Everett Public Schools, Ms. Whitcomb teaches primarily at two schools, the Webster School and the Devens School. Poverty is a district-wide concern, especially with the after effects of COVID-19. Given the unique learning needs of our students, we are focusing on acquiring language and communication skills. Students attend classes in a kind, nurturing, and supportive school community, with high expectations for success and learning outcomes.
